AFROPUNK FEST 2014
Last week Afro Punk released their dates for the festival and the line up is far from a disappointment. It will be taking place at Commadore Barry Park in Brooklyn August 23 & 24! Price for tickets range from $25 to $125 and there are various packages that incorporated with the ticket price. This year D'Angelo is the headliner and this is off the cusp of sources saying that he is dropping a new album later this year, so hopefully he will be playing new music during his set. A

ST. LUCIA - SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL
St. Lucia is a remarkable place with breathtaking views, one-of-a-kind natural activities, the best beaches and an astounding sense of culture. I know I sound like I'm gushing... and I am. It exceeded my expectations and changed my travel life forever.
A few of us arrived together and took a car service to the hotel which gave us a 45 minute scenic tour of the island, seeing the stadium where soccer matches and major concerts happen, lush greenery, residential areas, shoppi

Dear White People
Well if you have been living under a rock, the hype surrounding Dear White People is growing at a fast rate and you better pay attention now! This film is being coined as the Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing for our generation. Film director Justin Simien states, "This film isn't about 'white racism', or racism at all. Dear White People is about identity. It's about the difference between how the mass culture responds to a person because of their race and who they understand th

One Word, Fresh - Brooklyn, NY
One of my favorite brunch spots in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is EGG. It started off as a super small hole-in-the-wall brunch spot that when you entered, you automatically felt like you were in a fresh environment with fresh ingredients, and pleasantly greeted by staff who make you feel at home in the quaint space details with white exposed brick walls and wooden chairs. The only issue was that the restaurant was small and the patronage grew faster than they could handle, so like

ALEX ELLE INTERVIEW: AUTHOR, POET AND INSPIRATION
SS101: First things first Alex, thanks for taking the time out of your day to speak with me! You are our first interview since the relaunch so this really means a lot. So your first book Words From A Wanderer was received very well, how did it feel to have people connect with your words? Alex: It was awesome! I wasn’t expecting it, the only reason why I put out a book was really because people were tired of screenshotting the work on instagram. So that was really the push to

Dessert Shack
Vanilla custard with cheesecake blondie mix-ins at Shake Shack? Why has no one told me about this before?! I'm no longer speaking to y'all! It was everything. That is all! #diningout #brooklyn

Best Places To Eat in New Orleans, Louisiana
I’ve been to New Orleans for ESSENCE Festival in 2011 and had a grand ol’ time. It started with me being on a 7- hour delayed flight due to a missed connection to me jumping out the airport and rushing to 2 hand grenades (the devil’s nectar) – attempting to catch up with my friends who had been enjoying the French Quarter for hours. Needless to say, it jumpstarted my trip with a kick. My favorite thing about New Orleans is that it’s so rich in culture. Easily, you can say tha

New Nostalgia, Rita's Ice in Brooklyn
I haven't had Rita's since college days in Philly. There was only one location in New York City, quite far from me (92nd Street in Manhattan)...until now. Hello Rita's in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY! Photo'd here is a twisted sundae with hot caramel and oreo crunch and a mango/peach Italian Ice. #NOM On a hot summer day, this right here, is EVERYTHING. not to mention a fun walk on the boardwalk at Coney Island literally across the street. Rita's Ice 1327 Surf Ave, Brooklyn, NY

Spanish Nights - Philadelphia, PA
If you're looking to get dressed up and have a great meal with friends, hit up a local happy hour with comrades, or even order a Friday night meal for you and your boop (Philly term of endearment) to make it a Netflix night, Tierra Colombiana is perfect for all these occasions. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and space for large parties, which my friends and I took full advantage of on my last visit for my birthday. I've also been to Tierra's for happy hour and me and m

Hello Fried Chicken, in the Flatiron District?! - New York, NY
On the hunt for the best fried chicken in New York City, I've heard of the same 4 spots that are "must eats." I had been to the other three, but had yet to go to this soul food delight - Hill Country Kitchen. Mind you, it was located three blocks away from my then office in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. Hill Country Kitchen is undoubtedly a fried chicken joint, down to earth vibe, almost diner-esque (but a little classier) and #DAMB slamming grub, despite being located
