A BRUNCH OASIS IN NYC
I love New York City to death - born and raised here. You can't be the energy, art, hustle, cultural fusion... but there are times where you just need an escape from the madness that is Manhattan. That's why I'm an evangelist for exploring the other four boroughs that make up NYC - but there are times when you're with friends and you've just finished shopping... or you're meeting up with friends who live in different boroughs and Manhattan happens to be the most central point for everyone. Then sometimes you need a spot in the middle of the city that is a break from it all.
I've been to the rooftop of 230 Fifth for drinks afterwork before. Sexy vibe with palm trees and universally cool music, swanky furniture and expert waitstaff - one amazing thing to note is that the rooftop is open all year long, even in the dead cold NYC winters as the rooftop is heated and they provide insulated quilts so that you can still take in the picturesque Manhattan views at night.

It wasn't until I visited 230 Fifth for a friend's birthday brunch did I realize that it was the PERFECT brunch destination in NYC that doesn't feel like NYC at all. With the palm trees, light music, perfect summer breeze, good looking crowd, OPEN FOOD buffet and a complimentary drink, there's not much more that you can ask for.
The brunch is just $29.99 which for the location, atmosphere and quality of the food, is a great deal! I did my "research" (aka buffet greediness) and tried just about everything. My recommendations are the fresh fruit, french toast, omelette station, fried chicken, pancakes and bacon. For drinks, the rasberry mojito is perfect! Mimosas and martinis were all a go. Be sure to make reservations and take photos next to the palms to make your friends jealous!
