BLACK BUSINESS FEATURE: GREEN SOUL (PHILADELPHIA)
Green Soul is located at 8229 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19118, next to the Chestnut Hill Farmer's Market. The focus at Green Soul is "to present…. a feel-good, Comfort Food Cafe, that features quality cuisine that is as good for you as it tastes.”
Green Soul has a peaceful, relaxing and young atmosphere and promotes healthy food. Philadelphia is known for a lot of great foods, especially the Philly Cheesesteak, but not so much for healthy food options. Because of decades of a lack of healthy options, residents of areas with high concentrations of black people tend to stray away from healthy food. Also, just being able to afford and have the knowledge of eating healthy plagues our communities. Green Soul is a great segue into a healthier lifestyle for folks looking to take their health seriously.
While walking up to Green Soul it's surrounded by flowers and a beautiful fountain. The inside of the restaurant is clean and modern. They even have a play section for children which makes it perfect for family dining out. You can sit down and eat or order to-go, and while waiting for your food you can have free water that has lemons and limes infused.
I ordered the Gulf Shrimp Wrap and Green Smoothie. The Green Smoothie is made up of Bananas, Apples, Dates, Mangoes and Collard/Kale and the Gulf Shrimp wrap had Olive-Oil Mayo, sweet red peppers and seasonings, with romaine spear, tomato and shaved cucumbers. It was a great meal and I felt great eating it. I really recommend this place. We have to support our black businesses and eat healthier - not only that, but Green Soul is delicious and worth every penny.
