Police Brutality Petition by Shaun King

    August 20, 2014

If you have been on twitter and following the Mike Brown case you will have seen many tweets by Shaun King. King is a Father, Husband, and Social Media Activist. In his own words, his core passion and skill "is building online communities which connect people to the causes and products and people they love”.

Over that past 5 days on twitter that has been exactly what he has done! He has used his platform to speak on and shed light the issues in Ferguson, MO and Police Brutality in this country. He has been a beacon of information and created a petition that will help end murder by police force.

King's petition calls for a new law to be created that made up of the following polices:

    • The shooting and killing of an unarmed citizen who does not have an outstanding warrant for a violent crime should be a federal offense.

    • Choke holds and chest compressions by police (what the coroner lists as the official cause of death for Eric Garner) should be federally banned.

    • All police officers must wear forward-facing body cameras while on duty. They cost just $99 and are having a signficant, positive impact in several cities around the United States and the world.

    • Suspensions for violations of any of the above offenses should be UNPAID.

    • Convictions for the above offenses should have their own set of mandatory minimum penalties. The men who killed Diallo, Bell, Grant, Carter, Garner, and others all walk free while over 1,000,000 non violent offenders are currently incarcerated in American prisons.
