"Wanderlust: For The Young, Broke Professional" by Deidre Mathis is a great resource for the novice to mid-experienced traveler, the young professional who is just starting to earn disposable income, and for those who haven't started traveling internationally at all but have all the wanderlust in the world in their hearts. Deidre has traveled to more than 23 countries on 5 continents, and shares many of those experiences in her book. Not only about the people, food and vibe of each destination, but also how she managed to do most of it on as little of a dime as possible. From working overseas, to discount air fare sites, travel grants and more, it is quite intriguing. Most alluring, though, is that Deidre lived my dream, which before reading this book, I didn't realize the term had been coined a "gap year." Essentially, a year where you steer away from the traditional 9-5 or formal education, and you just live and learn through travel. She explains how she made it happen, and only part of it has to do with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. If travel is a passion of yours and you don't necessarily think that you know it all, then get into this book. It will give you some life and save you some coins.
